Organic Geochemistry
All substances consisting mainly of carbon are called organic substances. They are not only energy sources, in the form of coal, natural gas or petroleum, but are also essential raw materials for many products of modern technology.
The almost daily contacts with organic compounds include risks. Once released into the environment, under certain circumstances, severe damage is to be expected.
At the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources geochemists work on two main fields of organic-geochemical investigation:
- organic geochemistry and petrography
- gas and isotope geochemistry.
