BGR Bundesanstalt für Geowissenschaften und Rohstoffe

Web Services

BGR’s specialized geodata are made available as Web Services and downloads. Currently, there are different Web Map Services (WMS) and a Catalogue Service Web (CSW). In addition, by subscribing to our Atom Web Feed you can keep up to date on INSPIRE-identified products and download the data in various formats.

BGR’s Web Services

Exhaustive information on the BGR web services including download links can be found in the Geoportal:
https://geoportal.bgr.de

Catalogue Service Web (CSW)

By integrating our Catalogue Service into your web portal (e.g. for use in geodata infrastructures) you can search for relevant datasets in our geodata catalog from your website.

INSPIRE services

BGR provides download services for INSPIRE as atom feeds. The following link leads to the products identified for INSPIRE: https://services.bgr.de/atomfeeds/service.xml

The linked geodata can be used free of charge if the source is stated.

Using webservices

A WMS allows direct access to BGR’s expert geodata. For visualization you need a WMS compatible program such as Google Earth or a GIS. The product list of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) shows the currently registered WMS compatible programs.

Even if the address of a WMS looks like a regular internet address (URL), an internet map application with WMS import function (e.g. Geoportal.de tools – add WMS) will be needed for visualization in a browser (Firefox, Chrome, Edge, etc.). With a browser alone, a WMS cannot be used expediently.

Short links to GDI BGR map services:
To display map services in a web-based viewing program (viewer, e.g. BGR Geoviewer) in the browser, the short links on the following overview page can be used: https://services.bgr.de/uebersicht/kurzlinks
These short links should remain stable in the long term, for example to be used on printed maps.

Using atom feeds

You can display atom feeds in your browser if you have a feed reader extension installed. There are also special feed readers for this task. These will automatically inform you about new releases of INSPIRE-identified products.
