Technical Support Areas

GEOTHERM supports partner countries in:

Field work

  1. Geoscientific investigations („pre-feasibility study”) at selected sites
We assist partner countries in geological, geochemical and geophysical surveys to reach the stage of a pre-feasibility study (suggestion of sites for exploratory drilling). Technical support is provided in data interpretation and storage. A close cooperation with national personnel ensures that local capacity and institutions are strenghtened.
  2. Capacity building
We provide training in geothermal energy matters. On the job training in the field or under classroom conditions is an essential component of our technical assistance and contributes to the strenghtening of local institutions.
  3. Policy advice
We strenghten national and regional capacities and advise in regulatory regimes through our technical assistance. We provide advice in geothermal concession regimes, institutional set-ups as well as other geothermal energy related matters.
  4. Regional approach
We promote a regional know-how exchange and regional policy dialogue, particulary in East Africa. We provide professional geothermal know-how to regional / global organisations in order to promote the use of geothermal energy.
  5. Acces to finance options
We provide assistance in the identification of financial mechanisms and support business linkages like the Geothermal Risk Mitigation Facility (GRMF).
  6. Ranking of geothermal prospects
We assist in comparing data of geothermal prospects to decide which prospect is the most promising for further development.
  7. Economic and socio-economic analyses
We assist in economic and socio-economic analyses to ensure economic and social sustainability of the project.
