Co-operation between commerce and science
The Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources has gained wide-ranging experience in the field of geosciences from the most diverse areas of scientific and technical research, from internationally oriented Technical Co-operation Programs and from advising the government on economic policy issues. This know-how can bolster German participation in, for example, EU or World Bank tenders, can lead to the transfer of knowledge or can be used for many customers from the commercial or administrative sectors to solve problems quickly and in a goal-oriented manner.

Marketing of innovations and Intellectual Properties (IP)
The Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources is a scientific and technical institution and carries out practical research and development work to fulfil its tasks. For this purpose, equipment and procedures are developed which are indispensable for such research and which also have a certain market potential.
In the development demonstration and marketing of these products, we like to co-operate with partners from industry, above all with small and medium-sized enterprises (SME).

The Commission of Geoinformation Business (GIW-Kommission)
The GeoBusiness Commission (GIW-Commission) was set up by the German Federal Ministry of Economy and Technology. Main aim is to optimize the economic-political development in the new market of geoinformation. Geoinformation means any data which can be defined by location and elevation coordinates. The Management Office of the Commission is working very close to the Ministry. It is arranged in a staff position at the Head of BGR.
