The BGR keeps geoscientific Collections with locations in Berlin and Hannover, the latter in cooperation with Lower Saxony’s State Authority for Mining, Energy and Geology Landesamt für Bergbau, Energie und Geologie (LBEG) in the buildings of the GEOZENTRUM HANNOVER. They belong to the major geoscientific collections in Germany.

What was initially the Collection Object of the Month, became the Quarterly Collection Object when after four years 48 collection objects were completed at the start of 2007. At the end of 2019 the 100th collection object was achieved.
