Geological general maps of Germany

Geology of GermanyGeology of Germany

The BGR provides standardised and harmonised geological data for the federal territory in the form of digital general maps at a scale of 1:250,000 and smaller. The geological data include information on the age, composition and formation of rocks (geological units) as well as tectonic line elements and marginal positions of the ice shield.

The geological general maps are available to the public via the BGR geoportal as a Web Map Service (WMS) and for download as an ESRI shapefile. In addition, they are accessible in the Geoviewer of the BGR Geoportal.

All digital geological overview maps are also available in an INSPIRE-compliant version and accessible via the BGR geoportal as a Web Map Service (WMS) and as GML-files. They are also visualised in the Geoviewer of the BGR Geoportal. According to the INSPIRE requirements, the GML files are provided as download via an Atom feed.

Currently, the following geological general maps are available digitally and INSPIRE-compliant:

The General Geological Map of the Federal Republic of Germany 1:250,000 (GÜK250)

Geological Map of the Federal Republic of Germany 1:1,000,000 (GK1000)

Geoscientific Map of the Federal Republic of Germany 1:2,000,000 - Geology (GK2000 Geologie)

Geologic Map of the Federal Republic of Germany 1:2,750,000 (GK2750)
