The Board of Trustees advises the management of BGR and the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy on important issues relating to the activities and development of BGR. Its advice covers in particular the scientific, technical and economic activities of the Federal Institute, as well as important organisational and personnel issues relating to its management, with the following focal points:
- fulfilling tasks in Germany and abroad, securing raw materials and protecting the environment
- medium and long-term planning, including financial planning
- significant changes to the internal organisation, including personnel matters relating to the management of the Federal Institute.
The Board of Trustees for BGR and its rules of procedure were established and laid down in the decree on the Board of Trustees of the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources of 29 January 1975.
The trustees are appointed for a term of 5 years. They meet twice a year under the leadership of the chairperson.
