The BGR Report 2023
The BGR Report 2023 presents the BGR projects and work from the years 2022 and 2023. With the main topic “Focus on Raw Materials”, this edition informs you, among other topics, about the work for securing the raw material supply in Germany, the possibilities of a sustainable production of raw materials and the visit of Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz in February 2023.
With reports, specialist articles and interviews, the Report 2023 provides in-depth and captivating answers to the following questions and more:
- What is the basis of the BGR’s raw materials expertise and which methods and technologies do we employ to support politics and economy?
- In what ways does the first German “Recycling Atlas for Metal Production” from the German Mineral Resources Agency (DERA) contribute to the expansion of circular economy?
- How does BGR support the German Government’s evaluation of geothermal energy projects and how can seismic risks related to geothermal energy be monitored and mitigated?
- How does the choice of climate-resilient tree species influence the future groundwater recharge and water supply?
- Which role does Artificial Intelligence play when it comes to analysing a host rock for a safe underground storage of radioactive waste?
- Why and how is BGR’s expertise so important in the search for a suitable repository site for high-level radioactive waste in Germany?
You can gain further in-depth geological knowledge by reading the articles about the exploration and monitoring of uranium mining legacies in the Kyrgyz Republic, securing energy during times of crisis, deep-sea mining and its impacts, the age of our groundwater and the path to harmonised data acquisition. Reports about the technical cooperation of BGR with Mongolia, responsible supply chains in the DR Congo, the groundwater problem in Vietnam and BGR participation at the IUGG 2023 in Berlin round off this issue.
