Our topics

  • Ground Motion Service Germany

Deformations of the Earth's surface can be a threat to people and infrastructure. Therefore, spaceborne interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) is used to precisely measure ground motions for entire nations, e.g. Germany. Due to the unique capabilities of InSAR, the evolution of ground motions processes, e.g. subsidence and landslides, can be observedwithout the need of setting up instruments in the field. These informations are of high value for responsible authorities, science, industry and citizens.

  • Hyperspectral Remote Sensing

Hyperspectral data in remote sensing is used to precisely identify and analyze materials and objects based on their spectral fingerprint. Due to the high spectral resolution, hyperspectral sensors provide very accurate and important information for scientific and economic applications

  • Multispectral Multisensor Remote Sensing

Analysis of space- and airborne multispectral- and multisensor data contribute significantly to the understanding of the earth surface and its dynamic processes. The applications range from geology, natural resources, soil, groundwater, geohazard assessment and earthquakes. The applications are developed in research projects and are used in national and international cooperations.

  • Radar Remote Sensing

Radar remote sensing is a method of remote sensing that uses radar systems to detect and analyze the Earth's surface and other objects from a distance. Microwave or radio waves are emitted from a sensor, reflected by the surface, and then received back by the sensor. This technique makes it possible to obtain information about the structure, composition, and movement of objects.

  • Thermal Remote Sensing

Thermal remote sensing is a method of remote sensing that uses infrared radiation (heat radiation) to measure temperature differences on the Earth's surface or in the atmosphere.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Remote sensing data is collected using satellites, aircraft, helicopters, and drones. To supplement the observations, measuring devices are often used directly on site or in the laboratory.

  • Remote sensing data is used in an application-oriented manner. Methods are developed that are important for many different uses, from small-scale investigations to supraregional analyses.

  • Remote sensing methods are developed and used to perform tasks and applications in Germany and abroad for the exploration, mapping, and evaluation of geological, raw material, soil, and water management issues as well as geohazards.
