The Soil Map 1 : 250,000 (BUEK250) displays the distribution of soils and soil communities all over Germany in a harmonised way.

As digital successor to the 1 : 200,000 Soil Map (BUEK200), it is closely related to it in terms of both space and content. The 2171 mapping units of the BUEK250 are described in detail in a database on the basis of dominant and accompanying soil profiles down to a depth of 2 metres in accordance with the KA5 standard. In addition, the database also contains tables for a general legend, which allow the mapping units to be assigned to four hierarchical levels of parent material types or of the pedogenetic soil systematics.

The BUEK250 provides a detailed, nationwide information basis for cross-state evaluations on soil use and soil protection in Germany for policy advice, research institutions and the general public.
