Applications
Requirement – Application – Benefit
Sustainable development of soil as a geo-resource requires preventive soil protection. Practical and effective soil protection measures require spatial soil information as well as tools and evaluation methods for representing the properties and spatial distribution of soils.
The objective in the context of legal tasks, e. g. with respect to the Federal Soil Protection Act (BBodSchG) as well as climate change adaptation measures, is the development of technical consulting principles, e. g. in the field of soil function assessment. Pedological evaluation maps are created and made available to users as a basis for consultation and decision-making.
Examples
- Based on the database of a selected BÜK200 test sheet, a methodological test of the TUB-BGR method for calculating the seepage water rate was carried out as thematic evaluation.
- Nation-wide overviews of soil potentials or hazard levels as thematic maps for consulting, training and public relations have been compiled in a printed Soil Atlas of Germany and in a digital atlas information system.
- For planning and decision support systems (DSS) for an integrated water resources management, soil exploration and evaluation methods are developed or adapted and integrated into these systems.
- On the subject of ‘Soil functions in climate change’ , functions of the soil water balance directly related to the climate parameters of temperature, precipitation, wind speed and evaporation were analysed by means of climate scenarios.
