Data evaluation

Spatial soil databases

Spatial soil databases serve on the one hand as information basis for the distribution of soils, and on the other hand they can be used to derive soil properties and make statements about their threats and their potential use. Corresponding analyses require a representative and comprehensive data base and evaluation methods. In addition, BGR utilises modern GIS techniques and extended data basics (e. g. through relief analysis) in order to improve the accuracy and quality of its data products.

Method database and applications

Digitally implemented soil evaluation methods are compiled in the method database. To ensure that the results of nationwide analyses can be compared with those at federal state or regional level, the method collection has been closely coordinated with the State Geological Surveys of the federal states, similar to the spatial data in FISBo.

In method applications, spatial soil data are analysed for a wide range of current issues and made available as thematic soil maps.

Soil functions in climate change

Climate parameters play an important role for many soil functions. In one project, functions of the soil water balance that are directly related to the climate parameters of temperature, precipitation, wind speed and evaporation were analysed with the help of climate scenarios.
