German Isotope Network / Deutsches Isotopennetz

Logo German Isotope Network

GIN focuses on all issues related to the sampling, analysis and evaluation of water isotope data. Samples are regularly taken from multiple climate and surface water stations and combined with groundwater data from state authorities, research institutes and universities.

The German Isotope Network GIN enables continuous, long-term monitoring of stable water isotopes (δ18O und δ2H) and tritium (3H) with high spatial resolution in groundwater, precipitation, surface water and other components.

GIN aims to connect laboratories and institutes with isotope expertise, to continuously improve sampling and analytical performance as well as data quality.

Isotope data is sampled and checked for quality. Therefore, we organise GIN meetings regularly since 2018 and organise intercomparison tests with unknown materials.

GIN supports long-term isotope observations to provide evidence for scientific research and applications in all disciplines, particularly in the fields of resource research and environmental management in Germany.
